Creature Limb Builder (Tool)
Technical Designer
March 2021 - April 2021 (1 month) | Solo | Unity
Creature Limb Builder is a tool I created for Unity. The most basic demonstration of the functionality is shown in the first minute of the video above. It enables a user to quickly assemble a creature from body and leg prefabs, and instantly be controlled by a player or an AI component. The creature moves and animates procedurally, walking on and responding to terrain.
- Researched talks and videos on procedural animation and character controller techniques.
- Planned the projects' development: necessary features, their implementation, and some content to demonstrate them.
- Implemented the features in C# and created the demo content.
- Created a video with test environments explaining the different components and techniques used.
- The video finally details possible applications of this tool for different game mechanics.
Code Sample
A sample of my code in PDF format. This script connected to other components: the IK targets that move the legs, and the IK components of the legs themselves, to apply a realistic upward force for the body to counteract gravity while grounded, and to determine which legs should be paired, and how they should step in alternation.
