Playing with the Trouble (Unity, tabletop)
Game Designer (freelance)
Aug 2023 - March 2024 (present, 9 months) | 11 person team | Unity, Tabletop
Playing with the Trouble is a research project within the Centre for Unusual Collaborations: a team of researchers and freelancers, including myself, "co-designing card decks and other playful materials and activities that can support transdisciplinary collaborations. Our goal is to consolidate these learnings into a “travelling library for transformative play” to circulate widely and enable collaborations to address important societal challenges." I am currently working with the team, as of Dec 2023, on finalizing early iterations of each game, testing them all to make further iterations, and creating a digital prototype of one of our games in Unity to test whether digital version games will help bring together hybrid/online teams.
- Creating a prototype of one of our card games using Photon Fusion with Unity.
- Learned team processes and goals to draft a Transformational Framework we could use to guide our processes.
- Created rulebooks, components, and other playable materials for 6 game ideas the team started developing and testing
- Designed 2 original games with themes to fit the library.
- Conducted usability tests with academics using individual forms created for each game to make further iterations based on player feedback and observations.
